Players Continue to Flee AS Kigali Women

Following a multitude of problems encountered during the 2025-26 season, AS Kigali WFC continues to lose key players it was relying on to help during the return leg of the League.

Before this women’s season began, one of the teams that faced a series of issues, including financial struggles and others, was AS Kigali WFC, which used to dominate women’s football in Rwanda.

After concluding the first leg with nine points, sitting in 10th place out of 12 teams, AS Kigali WFC began losing some of the best players it depended on.

Initially, the team lost its first-choice goalkeeper, Uwamahoro Diane ‘Gasenda’, who has already headed to APR WFC. Shortly after, another departure was Umwizerwa Angelique ‘Rooney’, who had been with the team for nine years and has now moved to Police WFC.

Reliable information obtained by UMUSEKE indicates that other players are at the exit door, including Ingabire Aline, a right-back and National Team player, and Kayitesi Alodie; both are rumored to be potentially joining Police WFC.

Besides these players, it is reported that Muhazi WFC and other teams looking to strengthen their squads are knocking on AS Kigali’s door, with some players already having been approached about leaving to work elsewhere.

Although some continue to turn their backs on the team, the club, which is sponsored by the City of Kigali, is also said to have secured players from Uganda, including a goalkeeper.

The return leg matches of the Women’s League will begin tomorrow, January 17, 2026, where AS Kigali WFC will start by visiting Forever WFC at the Tapis Rouge pitch.
