Muhire Kevin, former captain of Rayon Sports, has stated that it is unlikely that the current players of the club will be able to win the Cup or finish among the top five teams.
Muhire, who currently plays for SC Jamhur in the First Division of South Sudan, is in Rwanda on holiday.
In an interview with RadioTV10, he explained that given the current squad, Rayon Sports lacks the strength to secure the Cup or compete among the top five teams.
He said:
“Considering both the current and former players, it is difficult for Rayon Sports to achieve more than what it can offer now. Looking at the starting lineup and the substitutes, you can see that Rayon Sports needs additional quality players. With the current squad, they cannot win the Cup or compete in the top five.”
He continued:
“Unless they buy stronger players and add more depth, it is unlikely for the current squad to reach the top four or five positions.”
Muhire, who was Rayon Sports’ captain last year, also pointed out positions that need strengthening, particularly in attack, as key players like Bassane have been sidelined due to injuries.
He said:
“In midfield, players like Richard are strong. I noticed they bought a number six, which is good. They also need wingers since Bassane is injured, and they need a striker at top level, because the one I saw is not yet at Rayon Sports standard.”
Kevin emphasized that if Rayon Sports could recruit quality substitutes while keeping the core players, they might challenge for the Championship Cup. However, under the current circumstances, it would be very difficult.
His comments come after Rayon Sports’ spokesperson, Gakwaya Olivier, recently stated that the club does not have players of sufficient quality, adding that the current squad has limitations.
After 13 league matches, the team from Nzoove sits in 7th place with 21 points.
